DAY 15--Just what are we fasting for?

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  --Romans 12:1-2

During this corporate fast, we are all looking to God for crisper focus and vision for our personal lives and for our congregation.  Personal transformation happens, however, when we change our thinking and begin to behave in a different way.

For many of us, we believe that somehow being transformed into a different person happens through the instantaneous and miraculous event. However, the scriptures say plainly above that transformation happens when our minds are renewed.  When our assumptions, beliefs and thoughts change, we will be changed.

That's really simple, but what it means is that if there are things about ourselves that we wish were different, we need to find the thought behind our behavior.  If you are habitually rash or have a tendency toward depression or constantly find yourself making choices that are different than what the Bible says, you need to get to the roots of what you really believe.

As you root out lies you've bought into, accepting the truths that God reveals in the scriptures, you will find the possibility for real change in your life.  Jesus said, "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32).

During this fast, as you're looking for clarity and you're seeking a better vision of your personal life, ask God to show you in his Word and through his Spirit the lies you believe and what the truth you need to believe is.  If it's personal transformation you're seeking, believing and acting on the truths of God's word is the way to get there.
