PRAY-ER--Intercede

What does it mean to "intercede" for someone in prayer?

What difference does it make to be an "intercessor" in prayer?

How can you move people and circumstances closer to God through prayer?

How does a person "intercede"?

These questions and more are addressed in this message that saw a powerful response and many people making decisions for Christ yesterday at First Assembly!   The outline and the video is below.

PRAY-ER:  Intercede

Isaiah 53:12  Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.  For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

Isaiah 59:16 “He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him.”

BIG IDEA:  Intercession is the activity of bringing two parties together in prayer.

1.  Jesus Christ intercedes for us, creating an intersection of our lives with God’s.

Romans 8:34Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.”

Hebrews 7:25Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”

2.  The Holy Spirit intercedes for us, connecting our way with God’s will.

Romans 8:26-27  In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”

3.  Believers are to intercede and so make bridges between heaven and earth.

1 Timothy 2:1I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—“

ACTION:  Who are three people you can begin to intercede for every day?
