LIFE ON MISSION—GROW
Luke 6:40 “The student is not above the teacher, but
everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”
BIG IDEA:
To become like Jesus is a process of training more than
trying.
WHY GROW?
Growing
into a Christ-like person is the natural consequence of following
Jesus.
Ephesians. 4:14-15 "We
are not meant to remain as children ... but to grow up in every way into
Christ...“
WHY DO SO MANY NOT GROW?
So many
followers of Jesus want his comfort, but don’t want to change
because of it.
KEYS TO GROWTH
1. A commitment to the Word of God.
1 Peter 2:2 “Like newborn
babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your
salvation…”
2. A commitment to the people of God.
Hebrews 10:23-25 “ Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we
profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And
let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good
deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as
some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as
you see the Day approaching.”
GROWTH = FRUITFULNESS
Spiritual
growth will result in personal transformation and bringing people
to Christ.
John 15:5 “I am the
vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear
much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
ACTION: Recommit yourself to growing and to
picking up the keys to growth.
