The Journey Through--Pardon

How can you forgive when someone lies and manipulates but never apologizes?  That was the big question explored in this sixth of seven messages from the life of Joseph.

Watch it below and give feedback about what strategies you employ to forgive others.

The notes from this message are below!

THE JOURNEY THROUGH--PARDON

Genesis 50:15-21  When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, ‘Perhaps Joseph will hate us, and may actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.’ 16 So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, ‘Before your father died he commanded, saying, 17 “Thus you shall say to Joseph: ‘I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.’” Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.’ And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.  18  Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, ‘Behold, we are your servants.’ 19 Joseph said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? 20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. 21 Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.’ And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

BIG IDEA:  How can you forgive those who lie and manipulate and never ask for forgiveness?

3 Keys to Forgiving Others

1.     You must release others from the penalty you think they deserve.

Leviticus 19:18  “You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.”

Romans 12:19  Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, ‘I will take revenge; I will pay them back,’ says the Lord.”

2.     Receiving the forgiveness of God frees us to forgive others.

Matthew 6:12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”

Matthew 10:8   “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”

3.     Believing that God has forgiven us gives us the power to forgive others completely.

Psalm 103:12  As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Isaiah 53:6   All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

Habakkuk 1:13  You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on wickedness. Why do You look on those who deal treacherously, and hold Your tongue when the wicked devours a person more righteous than he?”

Job 36:7   He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous; but they are on the throne with kings, for He has seated them forever, and they are exalted”

1 Peter 3:12  For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

2 Corinthians 5:21  “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

ACTION:  Forgive others with the forgiveness you have received from God.
